PLEASE NOTE:  This product comes to you as an essential oil blend!  It is intended for you to mix into a water-based mist (it does not come with a spray bottle – please purchase a sprayer and/or labels), add to homemade ointments, add to shampoos, or whatever skin regimen you desire.

Instructions for Use

Skin Spray Base

PrintSkin Spray Base can be diffused, however it was created with topical use in mind.

Birds:  This blend can be mixed into water, and misted directly onto birds.  Add between 5 to 20 drops of Skin Spray Base to a 4 ounce (120 mL) glass spray bottle, and fill the rest of the way with distilled water.  Shake well before each use.  Then, mist directly onto the bird up to once a day or as needed.  Generally between 3 to 10 pumps with the trigger sprayer is used, however feel free to adjust the amount sprayed to the individual.  Often if the bird would like to be sprayed with more solution – we will mix up a bottle with less drops of essential oil blend within it.  Then, just spray the bird with more pumps from the spray bottle.  For birds who have not been exposed to essential oils before, it is advisable to start with only 5 drops of blend in the recipe, then gradually increase the concentration as indicated.

Exotics:  Depending on the exotic animal, the Skin Spray can be created in a similar way to the Bird instructions and used in the same manner, when appropriate.  Some animals may not like to be sprayed, and then other recommendations would be used that are more specific to that particular species.

Cats:  Cats do not particularly appreciate being misted with water based sprays.  So, in general, this product is not recommended for cats.  Please see the Cat page for cat friendly recommendations.

Dogs:  You will need to mix this product into your own spray bottle for use as a Skin Spray.  Please do not forget the spray bottle and/or labels found on our Order Accessories page!  The Skin Spray is very soothing and beneficial to irritated and inflammed skin issues.  For most dogs a more concentrated solution of 10-20 drops per 1 ounce of distilled water (30 mL) can be used.  Although delicate areas, near the face, eyes, or fresh surgical wounds should use the concentration recommended for birds.  Conditions such as hot spots, clipper burn, inflammed anal glands, lacerations, surgical sites, and any other irritated area in need of healing can have the spray misted on, up to three times a day or as needed.  Shake well before each use, and mist lightly over the entire desired area.  In the case of eye surgery, the mist can be gently misted onto the facial area – and the essential oils will lightly be absorbed into the tissues – and aid in inflammation and healing.  Since most animals have an effective blink response, we are not concerned with the essential oils entering the eye.

Horses & Large Animals:  The Skin Spray can be mixed and used as discussed for dogs.  The higher concentration of 10-20 drops per ounce (30 mL) of water can almost always be used for these animals.  For some situations, neat application can be used via Petting – such as with a large bruise, or dripped directly into a wound or lesion.

Skin Spray Base has been my go-to for years, not only for my rescued Jack Russell, Miss Skittles, before I had to let her go, but for me as well. SSB helped soothe her skin which was really red when she first came to me; a change in diet and Standard Process supplements, along with Yeasty Beasty and two vet recommended meds, helped to clear up her skin issues and allowed her fur to grow back beautifully. In the last month, to avoid steroidal skin creams, I have used SSB religiously on a stress-induced eczema breakout on my upper chest and around/under my upper arms. Thank you so much Dr Shelton!

I use this on myself. I mix with hydrating cream when I exit the shower.
